Introducing the medley she described the songs as "connected to each other by the common theme of being about memory and reliving certain detailed memories of your life and the significance of those memories." The sequence bears it out: I Knew It, I Knew You returns to a remembered summer and finds the feeling intact, august holds a summer that was never possessed to begin with, and All Too Well insists on the accuracy of a memory the other person has let go. The outro folds the first song back into the last so that "I knew it" and "all too well" land as the same claim.
