“How we almost had it all / Dancing phantoms on the terrace”

The terrace is a liminal domestic space — neither fully private (interior) nor fully public — and the site of the phantoms' dance. Angela & Uncle Jerry discuss its deliberate ambiguity: are the dancing figures the couple themselves in memory, past people she has lost, the watching public, or all three simultaneously? The terrace elevates the ghost imagery into a performative, semi-public space — a stage for a love that was always also a performance.
