“You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now if only you had seen”

Being shattered on the floor pictures a person broken apart by their own undoing, the floor the lowest point they have fallen to.

“Time turns flames to embers”

The consolation is delivered as a fire being banked rather than put out. Flames become embers, so the heat is not denied, only reduced to something that can be lived beside. Embers keep what the flames were, which lets the reassurance carry its own reminder that the burning was real.

“I guess you really did it this time, left yourself in your warpath”

The warpath is the other person's own trail of destruction, and the damage has circled back onto him. The aggressor is left stranded in the wreckage he made.

“Wasn't it easier in your lunchbox days when everything out of reach someone bigger brought down to you?”

The lunchbox as the marker of the developmental period when the child does not yet provide her own food. The line addresses someone whose recent fall the speaker is consoling, and the food-from-an-adult-hand image holds the period the addressee is being asked to remember, the time when sustenance arrived unasked-for. The figure is the catalogue's earliest version of consumption-as-care.

“Always a bigger bed to crawl into”

The bed as the place of unbroken childhood retreat, the bigger bed always available to crawl into when something has gone wrong. The image holds out the persistence of a parental refuge through any disgrace, the bed sized to whatever the speaker's failure has been, and the act of crawling into it framed as the small body's homecoming after a public fall.
