Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

Angela & Uncle Jerry note that the motif of a narrator forced by penance to go out and tell his story repeatedly, as in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, also appears in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a medieval tale from the mid-14th century in the Pearl manuscript. In that story, the Green Knight's penance is to go out and tell how he failed in his Christian duty, just as the Ancient Mariner must tell his tale. Uncle Jerry draws this parallel to Taylor telling the story of her life.
