Community readers add a third biblical layer to the stone-gathering imagery: David gathering five smooth stones from the brook before facing Goliath. The reading maps the antagonist (Scott Borchetta / Scooter Braun) onto Goliath, no one expected the speaker to win the masters dispute, including herself, and the gathered stones onto the means by which the small, underestimated figure ultimately prevails. Additive to the existing Ecclesiastes 3 and Joshua 4 readings: Ecclesiastes holds the dual register (build or destroy), Joshua holds the memorial register, 1 Samuel holds the underdog-victory register.
